Christian Villouta has joined LarrainVial’s brokerage unit to lead its investment division and take on the role of managing its in-house fixed income portfolio.
It is understood Villouta (pictured above) will be taking on some of the responsibilities of the brokerage firm’s former CIO, Rodrigo Arrigorriaga, who left LarrainVial in July and has since joined Chilean real estate group Invinsa as a partner.
Villouta was officially named the group’s chief financial officer and one of his main roles, according to industry sources, will be running the group’s in-house fixed income portfolio which provides liquidity to the brokerage’s operations.
LarrainVial confirmed Villouta’s hire but would not comment further.
Villouta was previously CEO of Banco Penta’s asset management arm, now part of Banco Security, for five years. In that role, he oversaw its investment and fund selection teams.
He left the firm in July 2016 to launch a new boutique asset manager, Latam Asset Management, alongside co-partner Rodrigo Perez. The group focuses on alternative investments and also offers access to third-party alternative managers through a fund of funds structure.
Latam Asset Management will continue under Perez and a new partner, Juan Pablo Guzmán, will soon be joining as his replacement. Guzmán previously founded financial and real estate consultancy group G&S Consultores.
Guzmán's hire is part of the group's move to focus predominantly on investing in Chilean real estate projects. It is currently carrying out one in partnership with LarrainVial’s asset management division.
