Fund Flash: Veteran Franklin PM to exit; JPM launches alt Ucits ETFs

Citywire Americas rounds up the biggest news in the funds and Ucits investment universe as reported by Citywire’s global publications.

Veteran Franklin Templeton equity PM to exit

A veteran international equity portfolio manager is to retire from Franklin Templeton Investments next May.  

Philippe Brugere-Trelat, who has been with the firm for 23 years over two spells, will retire in May 2018 and leave behind several funds and strategies.

Brugere-Trelat manages three funds, including the Ucits compliant Franklin Mutual Global Discovery and the Franklin Mutual European funds as well as the Franklin Mutual International fund, which is available for sale in the USA.

At the end of the year, Franklin will add a new manager to each fund to ultimately replace Brugere-Trelat.

Christian Correa will be added to the Franklin Mutual Global Discovery fund, joining Peter Langerman and Timothy Rankin.

Mandana Hormozi will join Katrina Dudley on the Franklin Mutual European fund, and Rankin will work with Citywire A-rated Andrew Sleeman in the Franklin Mutual International fund.

 JPM AM in double Alt Ucits ETF launch

JPMorgan Asset Management is set to list two alternative Ucits ETFs aiming to bring diversification and reduced portfolio volatility to that space.

The JPM Equity Long-Short Ucits ETF will aim to provide long/short exposure to factors such as value, quality, and momentum within developed global equity markets.

Meanwhile, JPM Managed Futures Ucits ETF, will seek to provide systematic exposure to carry and momentum factors across equities, fixed income, currency, and commodities. 

Eastspring hires alts CIO

Eastspring Investments has hired Nadir Maruf as chief investment officer for alternatives as the Asia-based manager looks to boost its presence in that space through a dedicated unit.

Singapore-based Maruf joined from Daestrum Capital. He will report to the firm’s chief investment officer Virginie Maisonneuve, and is tasked with the management and investment performance of the firm’s alternative and infrastructure offerings.

The firm also appointed Duncan Black, who joined from Daestrum Capital as well, as investment director for alternatives.

GAM veteran to retire from active management

Veteran portfolio manager Andrew Green is set to retire from active fund management and take a role as director of global equities strategy at the end of the year.

He will step away from funds he’s run for 34 years, but will continue to oversee certain mandates.

Ali Meramadi will take over the GAM Global Diversified. In addition, Chris Morrison and Adrian Gosden will oversee the GAM UK Diversified fund for the time being.
