BNY Mellon Wealth Management has hired EFG Capital International’s former Americas investment strategy head, Carolina Montiel, as a director working within its ultra-high net worth client advisory team.
Miami-based Montiel joins BNY Mellon’s Family Wealth and Investment Advisor group, a team that focuses on advising ultra-high net worth individuals and families with $20 million or more.
She will cover the Florida region alongside managing director Ray Sidwell and the international team and will support both US domestic and US offshore wealth managers and wealth directors with developing asset allocation and investment strategies for families with complex investment needs.
Montiel will report to Ridge Powell, team leader of the advisory group, who said: ‘Her international experience and prior investment committee work will be a benefit to the region, plus her participation at conferences and forums where she is recognized as a thought leader will be beneficial to the organization as well.’
An advisor with over 25 years of investment experience, Montiel was most recently a senior vice president and head of Investment Strategies Group Americas at EFG Capital International in Miami, a position she left in late September, according to Finra’s Brokercheck.
In that role she developed strategies for Latin American clients, was a member of the firm’s global asset allocation committee and chaired the local investment strategy committee.
Citywire Americas understands EFG has not yet hired a replacement for Montiel.
Prior to EFG Capital in 2013, Montiel worked at HSBC Private Bank International in Miami as a head of investment strategies, managing a group of investment counselors responsible for private wealth clients.
