Leil-Cooper assumes the post vacated by Scandella, as . Scandella stepped down after two years following his move from French group Comgest.
His successor (pictured below) has been with the company for almost two decades primarily overseeing emerging market, frontier and Mena-focused investment strategies.
In a statement to CItywire Americas sister title Citywire Selector, a spokesperson for Barings said: ‘Leil-Cooper, who has been with Barings for almost 20 years, is now global head of equities and her focus will be on evolving Barings’ equity investment offering to become a research-led strategic equity partner for our clients.’
Meanwhile, Michael Levy has replaced Scandella on the global emerging markets strategy and relevant funds. He brings 21 years of experience in the investment field and is portfolio manager on Barings' frontier markets equities team.
Levy is now co-head of the emerging and frontier equities team with William Palmer. Palmer and Isabelle Irish remain on the global emerging markets equity strategies, providing a strong level of continuity having worked with Scandella.
While it was not formally revealed Scandella had left until this month, the spokesperson confirmed Scandella had stepped down officially on 1 November.
